Ruben Lugo has been keeping fish for more than 35 years. For the last seven years, he has concentrated on Loricariids and other bottom dwellers. Loricariids are commonly known as plecos or suckermouth armoured catfishes ("fish that suck"). Because many of the species have not yet been given official scientific names, they often go by L-numbers. Ruben has now bred 25 species of bottom dwellers and written articles on the subject for Tropical Fish Hobbyist. He is currently in third place on Planet Catfish's breeder board and has 30 tanks ranging from 10 to 125 gallons dedicated to bottom dwelling species.
Hearing Ruben tell us about his adventures with these unusual fish is a great way to get back into the swing of things at LIAS. Be sure to join us. Doors open at 7:30 and the meeting begins at 8:00. As always, there will be raffles and a mini auction. See below for meeting information.
To keep the momentum going, in October, we'll welcome Michael Marcotrigiano, a nationally ranked fancy guppy breeder, who will talk to us about how he raises champion guppies!
Please Note: Our photography contest was cancelled due to a limited number of entries.
